Happy Winter to all! Welcome to our First Grade blog. You will find exciting updates of our week on this page. Let's get started....we had a super last week of January. The first graders enjoyed using the smartboard. We were able to do our morning routine on the smartboard, as well as many math lessons. Thank you Miss. Torrey for introducing us to place value. The best part of the board is it is interactive...stay tuned for photos. We also completed Theme 3 of our reading program. We will be moving onto Theme 4 on Monday....The Butterfly Grows (nonfiction text). Mathematically, the children are having fun with place value. There are many hands on activities using tens and ones cubes. We also have enjoyed our math games....grab the candy, car race, and soon to be introduced to Bear Bus. Thank you to Mrs. Fiore for all of her hard work as we prepare for Mitten activities this upcoming week. She is very creative! Yes, Jan Brett will be on our minds in the week to come. Also, this week we will welcome Mrs. Caren Burtnett who will be observing our First Grade classroom on Thursdays. She is interested in becoming an early childhood educator. One more thing....A special thanks to all of our volunteers and Mrs. Wetmore who is a retired teacher. We are so fortunate to have Mrs. Wetmore. She shares her talent of teaching with us on Tuesday mornings,thank you!!
