Hello First Grade Families!
The month of march is off to a great start. This week we had lots of fun learning about the Main Idea of a story, as well as practicing our fluency. We had lots of discussion in our reading groups about what good readers do? The children enjoyed reading and listening to the story One More Friend. We also learned a new friends poem and made our own friend acrostic poem. Mrs. Fiore displayed the poems in our Hall of Fame. Thank you Mrs. Fiore! Great work boys and girls!
We continued using the smartborad this week. The children enjoyed the new songs that were downloaded......kids just wanna have fun & letter aerobics were favorites! Miss. Torrey also reviewed odd and even numbers, as well as doubles & doubles plus one (these skills will be reviewed on Monday). She introduced us to a doubles song with hand motions,so fun! This coming week...we are adding three numbers and reviewing our subtraction & addition facts to 12. Please practice at home. The math games are a continued success. We love Snails Pace, as well as using cards to count on etc.
A big THANKS to all of our Mystery Readers! I am so pleased with the overwhelming sign ups. All our Fridays are taken, so I am thinking we are going to have to allow other times for Mystery Readers. Please let me know if you haven't had an opportunity to come in and read?
We are looking forward to celebrating St. Patrick's Day! I am sure you may have heard that we planted grass seed. Do you think Lucky's hair will gorw? Keep your fingers crossed! This week we will be talking about why we are so lucky, as well as playing roll a leprechaun & maybe making a St. Patrick's Day treat? We also will be making shamrock pins with Mrs. Fiore...fun,fun! Thanks in advance to our room parents and all of you who continue to go above and beyond for your children. Hooray for you!
Don't forget the clocks this weekend... "Spring Forward"
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Thanks for the great update - it helps to put together with what Zoe tells me so I can get a better idea about all the hard work going on! Oh, and I must applaud the attention to detail....green text for St. Paddy's Day, right? :) P.S. I haven't done Mystery Reader yet, so if you add dates, or need someone to fill in last minute, let me know. Have a good week!
